Help an Avid Beginner

Truthfully, we are a little early for any repotting. I am going to start my deciduous in the first week of February. Junis usually come directly after the deciduous Succulents need to be actively growing when repotted. Same with Olives and many other warm weather species including desert natives so that will happen when we are reliably above 40F at night. Which lately we have been but I don't trust it. Yes what @Wulfskaar is telling you on the desert rose.

Welcome!

That's usually a good thing for trees. Granular bonsai soil allows water to flow right through, while certain components hold water. Organic components and akadama can hold water while allowing fresh air into the soi. A little air, contrary to common sense, is good for roots.

Usually the problem is with water NOT flowing through fast enough.

Do you have a pic of the soil?
Thanks for the response!!

FYI... I am no expert and have no experience yet with desert rose (although I just got some seeds). I'm only a few years into my bonsai journey, so getting other opinions is always a good thing. ;)

What's under the black stuff? I'd gently scrape enough off to see what's underneath. Honestly, the soil looks a little gross. I would research and consider repotting.

I used Cactus/Succulent soil for my Desert Rose, worked fine.
