I have been searching on the net for material about the species and I stumbled upon a photograph of your teacher's Mr. Ota's Tamarix taken in 2003
It is posted on old IBC by Mr. John Quinn.
I thought you would like to take a look at it

Thanks for the link. I actually has a copy of the International Bonsai magazine which showed my teacher tamarin on its cover. In that issue, the author presented Mr. Ota training technique.
