Golden State Bonsai Federation (GSBF) convention 2017 pictures

Huh, I thought a lot of people in Southern California visited this year bonsai convention but only IanB posted few pictures in other post! Let me share with you displayed trees to which I took pictures yesterday. I had to take one day off to go to convention in the morning. I was very lucky to get one precious bonsai tree and one prebonsai. My time was paid off! very well
These are displayed trees.
When I just stepped into the room, the 1st tree is Shimpaku from my teacher, Mr. Richard Ota. My teacher said it was a cutting about 50 years ago.


Next to it is JBP, in memory of John Naka. It is root over rock, I think.

I love this saikei from Frank Goya. It is so beautiful and natural. Very detailed.

I did not come into the Viewing Stone Exhibit but I came into the Judged Bonsai Exhibit. Here they are!
I love this pyracantha. The pot color compliment the fruit color very well!


I can not remember this is cedar, cypress or foemina juniper!

I got this ready show tamarix. It has a very impressive history to which I will tell the story later on. I am feeling very lucky to acquire it. I believe in destiny!

Nice show, thanks for taking the time to post the photos! Some really interesting trees. The twin trunk chinese elm from the GSBF collection really caught my eye - very beautiful tree by itself but that huge accent piece ruins the illusion and makes the tree look much smaller. Similarly with the one you labeled "I can not remember this is cedar, cypress or foemina juniper!", tree looks nice but that pot overwhelms the tree. The satsuki azalea (Luis Camerota) has a really nice natural tree shape.

Your new tamarix is very cool looking, please keep us posted as you work on it!

and this little Pygmy cypress. It trunk base is 1 cm with 30 cm in height. It is perfect for literati project. This is a first time I know Pygmy cypress. Its leaves looks like California leaves but much smaller. It has lemon scent! I love it!
