This looks like multiple trunks from separate trees, but it possibly could be multi trunk from a single root system. I have both. This didn't just happen overnight but has been going on at least two or three years. At his point why not just grow it as a clump.
I definitely think they're from the same tree. I don't know whether (if they are suckers) they'll sap the energy of the tree. As you can see its still in a training pot anyway
If they are the same tree, they are adding to the thickness of rhe trunk below the soil line. At next repot when you see what is really going on, you can make a better decision on what to do with them. They arent sapping growth but adding to it through additional photosynthesis IF they are the same tree. If different trees, then that may be a problem.

Agreed, if you carefully excavate the soil to see where they’re connected to the main trunk, you’ll see what to do. Chances are the trunk is swelling (which is normal and good) just below the soil and those suckers are growing from that bulbous base. If that’s the case, I would remove them flush at the trunk and cover it back up with soil so the cuts will heal quickly.
