my neighbor just dug this dogwood clump out to replace it with a lilac.

The rational side of my brain said nope.
The crazy said, “sure, I’ll see what I can do with it”.
IMG_4051.jpegOf corse, this work would’ve been better done a month or two ago.

Replanted and hard chop. Sealed up all the living chops. No idea if/how it will recover.

I have two bricks of two-part JB Weld epoxy that I'm staring at as I'm typing. Do you think it would work to seal cuts? I have a tree I believe is ready to be cut. People talk about electrical putty all the time, but I was an apprentice electrician for a couple years and there was never ever any mention of "electrical putty". lol

And this is a cool box.
Sounds like raw wood is used a lot for boxes, slats, or displays, guess I'll stop wasting money on plastic pots...

Our club president always has a brick of it.
Maybe it’s a type of plumbers putty?

It’s grey, and looks/feels just like the little bonsai putty I buy.
JB weld epoxy should work tho!

Well, consider this - putty stays soft and malleable and moves when the callus forms, epoxy will cure hard and stick to the wood. I am sure epoxy will seal well, but it might misshape the forming callus. It is usually used to fill the hollow to provide the callus to roll over it.
Experiment?

It's called electrical duct seal. It's used to seal up where wires go through to the outside and the joints on electrical conduit.

OK. That makes sense. I ran wire in homes, never made it to commercial work.
Thanks, now I know what to ask for. 👍

Duct seal for the win…

Leave the JD Weld for repairing pots or attaching tie down wires to rock or slabs.

Looking forward to see how this clump performs going forward… interesting material for sure.
I also use this exact stuff based on yours or someone else's recommendation on this site years ago. Super cheap and works well.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hijack your post. :)

I know next to nothing about Dogwood so I can't comment on the tree itself, but I love that box you built for it, looks like an actual pot!

Well, it’s alive.
Just starting to kick.
- cleaning out the rot and cutting back the dead stumps,
I didn’t realize how dense/hard dogwood is.. I guess I thought it would be soft and spongy.IMG_4263.jpegIMG_4264.jpegIMG_4265.jpeg
