The basketflower growing in the middle of a large patch of velvetweed (pictured below) has very similar leaves, stems, and growth habits. If not for the blossoms, it would be nearly impossible to tell the difference.
Ziziphus obtusifolia, a new world (inedible) jujube. Very thorny, but native. Bonsai potential? Maybe...
Texas blueweed, Hilianthus ciliaris, a small, widespread sunflower across most of North America.
Tall coneflower
Heart O' Gold - Producing 4" blooms (petals 38) of perfect form with a rich golden center shading to hot pink toward the edges. A true continual blooming grandiflora that will give arms full of long stemmed blooms.
Went to order my Heart O Gold this morning and it had sold out since my post yesterday.

Been in search of this grandiflora for years, as it looks nice, has strong enough fragrance and has survived below zero temps when all else has failed.
