First styling and repot for a Japanese Maple

Very unique and interesting tree!

I'd love to see a thread of just the most unique, strange, freaky, and avante garde bonsai.

Worked the rootball and removed roots that would interfere with a proper bonsai pot. Will hopefully recover well and eventually into a good pot.

Decided to use some string and start a brach downward that will to help hide the cuts on the top.

Not a fan of the trunk but the leaves are so beautiful! I'd keep it only for the leaves :)
Yea I don't pretend it's not a flaw. I hope with this branch placement might be able to camouflage the bad areas of the trunk.

Removed all the leaves and wired down some branches.

Today I removed the larger portion of the original cut back. There was a few limbs on the back side that are to straight and I felt like that portion woyld eventually grow into what I want as the top portion of the tree. I have wired down some branches to start to grow to the cut side so eventually this will cover the cut. I will hopefully get in with a Dremel and help smooth out the flat cut.

Over the winter I have been thinking about reducing down to get rid of the bad tapper. I think letting it grow out for a few years and let the trunk get thicker was a good idea. So today I chopped and repotted into good draining bonsai soil. I think wilk be a good start for it's new journey.

admire your courage👍
the top half of your tree looks like some very good variety, I would’ve tried to do something to save it for example air layering. The variety of your lower part is unknown.
