November 2023 - more shari work and thinning / branch selection was done in mid 2023

This has been a fun little 2 year journey so far with inexpensive material. I most likely need to remove a handful more branches to really get this thing feeling light and airy but those are decisions for next year.

wow, great progression, good work!

I think you're right about removing a few more branches in time. I'm still learning to 'appraise' bonsai and for me that first drop branch draws the eye a bit too much - it's only slightly thinner than the trunk and perhaps a bit too low? I'd probably lose that branch and drop an adjacent slightly thinner branch down or maybe just get a few more bends in it to distract the eye. Maybe it's just a bit too much 'front and centre' as it is.

Not intended to be a slight on your design, more a question of whether my critique is valid or not, it'd be interesting to hear what other people think.

Thanks Ashley — that seems to be the general consensus amongst the few who have seen it. I just wonder if it’s also the only thing that gives the tree any character. Would love to hear others thoughts as well.
