@bonsailosangeles Do you have pictures of the whole collection or garden where these were kept? And do you only have boxwoods or do they have other types of trees? I'm local to SoCal and would potentially be interested but 1) as others have mentioned the prices are rather high, and 2) they all sort of look like they are mass production bonsai to me, not something from a personal collection.

Sorry, don't mean to beat you up but you've come to a pretty discerning/nutty corner of the internet.

Yes I do. I am working with the owner and I've attached them to this post. I appreciate everyone's patience.

The boxwoods are only a fraction of the collection. There are many more trees, though like I've said before, the owner is not tech savvy and I am awaiting more photos from them for the other more sophisticated specimen.

We are accepting offers on all bonsais for any interested buyers. Each tree has been part of the collection for over 40 years, and has been meticulously well maintained.

They are all 100% from the owner's personal collection, with different styles per tree, and many more to come. No, they are not mass produced.

That is perfectly fine as we are serious sellers and looking to consider serious offers on these specimen. We are happy to arrange a meeting if you are serious about purchasing one or more of the bonsai. Attached to this post are some photos of the benches as requested.

EDIT: I cannot attach to the original post but here they are.

Thanks for the photos. This helps a real lot. I feel the need to add to the record.

The owner has given a lot of tender loving care to these trees. You are correct, the trees are meticulously maintained .
My wife and I have worked as volunteers for a number of years helping maintain the PB museum collection and this care was immediately visible to both of us. The yard is well maintained and in the classic SoCal traditional style.

The tree styling is of an era, penjingish. That is different than many folks here might appreciate. But the trees appear exceptionally healthy.

Some of the pots may or may not be of value, especially the older ones, I can’t tell enough from these photos

Like I said I’m not a boxwood person, but if there are any azaleas, I’m willing to take a look at them. PM me if you wish, Seriously.

This has been a really tough crowd and we know you are trying to do the very best for the seller. Keep at it. You might also pass these offerings to all the local clubs down there. Many locals are very knowledgeable and would appreciate this style.

Please give the seller our best regards.

I quite like the last one, and I think it's fairly reasonably priced (don't know boxwoods or Socal). Definitely unique and I think what DSD said was spot on, particularly about the penjing influences.

I had at first assumed this was an estate sale bought cheap to resell, but it seems the poster is genuine. Pricing things is hard, especially things that are near and dear to ones heart.

I appreciate the understanding @Deep Sea Diver @pandacular no this is not an estate sale, this is a private seller that has owned and cared for these bonsai for many, many, many years. I am hoping there are some that catch the eye of any other fellow enthusiasts. Please feel free to private message me and start a conversation with me to discuss purchasing. There will be more posted to eBay although we do not have to use eBay as a means to complete the transaction, Venmo, Zelle, CashApp, and cash and cashiers checks are accepted. Thank you everyone.

Thank you for understanding our skepticism. The trees look healthy. Now you know that the high prices of the first post got us suspicious.

Thank you for posting the additional photos and providing additional information. This is a tough crowd to address.

I would also encourage the seller to get in touch with local clubs. That is often the most successful (not to mention more efficient--no shipping or keeping long term track of who bought what, etc.) way of selling collections. Local clubs might even help with a live auction of the trees.

I would also not overlook some of the pots the trees are in. Although from what I can see in the photos, some look like pretty common, less expensive pots , one or two might be worth more--possibly more than the tree in them. Can't really tell from the photos. It would be worth asking the owner about them. They will probably know which are the best, etc.

With the sheer volume of scam calls and junk mail we have to sift through on a daily basis, it's easy to grow jaded and dismissive. The blatant sales puffery in the original post was also off-putting. Notwithstanding, this doesn't look like a scam. It's on eBay. You're not simply handing over your credit card information to a stranger on the internet. It would go through PayPal. The pictures also lend credibility to the sales pitch. These trees are probably overpriced, but, as @NaoTK pointed out, many bonsai trees listed on eBay seem to be overpriced. It's likely that OP and the seller have simply overvalued the trees and posted a tone-deaf ad.

Forgive a mistake. If pricing and advertising were easy, major corporations wouldn't spend, collectively, hundreds of billions of dollars on advertising every year.

sketchy, shady, if you ask me
I was initially skeptical. However, with additional pics of the trees, answered questions, and an anchor on Ebay, this sounds less and less sketchy to me. The pricing, I think, reflects an attempt at valuation of older material by a second party who is working with the original owner.

Owners often value their bonsai on the high end of the possible. I've seen in more than a few times here.

The seller is willing to deal, which is a good sign. It sounds as though HONEST offers will be accepted. Low-balling is a sin, BTW. So if you're interested, put in your BEST offer not some BS bargain basement offer (have had that happen to me, along with "if you sell me THAT one, can I get THAT one for less?"-both kinds of offers are insulting).

Yep. I myself have received offers for collected BCs at less than nursery price smaller BCs even.

I've had a few instances through work of people looking to buy a tree. It's much much harder than one would think to assign fair value. I tend to under value my work. Not saying I'm Bjorn or anything, see I did it again. But when you factor in everything, material, time, etc.

You do get an understanding of why some trees are priced how they are. So, for the most part, I shy away from selling anything.. Also, with the way this year has been it's a lot more difficult to address the tree surviving. Although I did have my first sold tree this summer. So technically I am a professional 😆.

I appreciate all the feedback negative and positive, if you want to place an offer, please send us your numbers through the conversation system and we promise we will work it out with you!

Again, friendly reminder, we do not ship these out, these are for local pickup only or if you have your own pickup system.

:)

End of the day, that's got to be the best for all parties involved.

@bonsailosangeles have you made any attempts in this direction?
Are you aware of any clubs locally? If not, a new thread could be helpful in locating several.
When you list on eBay and forums, for local pick up, you're targeted
buyers are such a small piece of those who may view them.
When you go to a bonsai club, your target is 100% local.
Best of luck in your endeavour. Our regards to the elderly bonsai enthusiasts behind these trees.

Do you have any shimpaku, pine trees, or maple for sale? Any age
