This might be my first post in the Tea House...I usually stay away....
A big part of Trump's appeal has to do with the Republican Party/establishment. They've tried to force terrible candidates on the voters for years now - McCain, Romney, Jeb and now Rubio. And these so-called "conservatives" get into office and do nothing to stem spending. Look at McConnell - fights the Obama budget then acquiesces once he got a billion dollar project for Kentucky. It's no wonder that the Tea Party splintered off a few years ago, and I think Trump is just an extension of that general movement.
Trump's appeal also has to do with the fact that he is going after the issues that cut across the political divide - illegal immigration, trade deficits, etc. And, he does it unapologetically and without all the PC crap.
It's interesting that everyone in the media and on both sides of the aisle are doing all they can to tear him down. Maybe in a different time they would have been successful, but voter frustration is so high that it's not working.
Unlike McCain and Romney who refused to attack Obama in an attempt to seem "presidential" and lost big time as a result, Trump, unlike the other candidates, will be no holds barred against Hillary. Maybe Cruz would take a similar approach, but Rubio is a political hack who was exposed for being a robotic talking point.
