Earlier today someone posted a thread about moving a procumbens into a circular pot. I did a quick vert trimming up some of the branches with a comment about "the tree might look better if the design was tighter" or something similar. The author deleted the thread.

Hope I didn't upset anyone. That was not my intent - I was just sharing my thoughts.

Wow is right...you took the time to create a virt...post and offer direction, if offense was taken it should be by you my friend. You went over and above to assist. Maybe it wasmore a casevof embarrassment or intimidation on the part of the poster. Perhaps they felt "out of place by asking such a seemingly basic question.

I didn't even know you can delete threads. Some people just don't want to hear alternative suggestions--myself included when I first began but not to that extreme.

Whoever it is probably is just taking a "time out" before they were hit with probation. They'll be back.

So we cant delete the Donald Trump thread? Dammit.

Well... I can delete or edit anything. I can also go and "undelete" things that people have deleted. But rather than go through that effort, I will simply assume that the author wants his content to remain deleted, and I will respect his wishes.

The one thing I hadn't considered is that when an author deletes his/her thread, all responses are deleted as well. It is a feature that can be abused if someone decided to do so. So I am going to turn off thread deletion, while still allowing people the 20 minutes to edit posts. For what it's worth, in the last 12 months only 5 threads have been deleted by their authors. It is a very uncommon occurrence, because you only had a 60 minute window in which to delete a thread you had authored.

By the way, I'm not being sneaky when I say I honestly don't remember whose thread it was. I would have to go into the database and undelete the content to find out, and since it was no big deal I will leave the content deleted.

That's good that you respect his wishes.

I don't recall the content of his post but did think the tree looked better in the round pot vs the square.

Yes the round pot was definitely better. However he didn't ask for comments about his design and I jumped in where angels fear to tread :)

"I jumped in where angles fear to tread" I'm upstairs laughing right now. I need to remember that.

...And, I think it's funny, educational and entertaining, when we just jump in....and start something.

Uh... the deleted thread just came back to life, LOL! I think we might have had a server glitch - and here I thought the author deleted it.

Note that the creation time was 2:45 PM... and yet all our comments are listed as being less than 30 minutes old :)

Did they ask for advice. If not asked is not always welcome. No one should be EXPECTED to have thick skin! All are not made same.

True, but I would think that anyone considering posting a picture of their tree has read some of the existing threads. In almost all of them, members have made suggestions on how to improve the tree.

It's reasonable to assume that if you post a picture, someone will make comments about it.

Dunno if I should reply to this, but if I did I would say don't judge so harshly or jump to conclusions. I haven't posted many of my trees in part because they are an important part of my private life, to the point of being a little weird maybe. The few times I have however, even if the comments have been positive, I sometimes have the thought that it was a mistake to share, for reasons again not necessarily related to the nature of the comments. It's complicated, but when I open up a tree for discussion it feels a little less my own and I start to think of other's reactions to what I do to it thereafter, and it can color my decisions. Just my perspective. No idea what the poster referred to here was thinking.

Against words? 21st century human being in a nutshell! What ever happened to "Sticks and stones......"? That's why there are so many losers in the world, you can't even tell someone their a loser!?!? Criticism gets your ass in gear, unless of course you want to live your life like a "yes-man".....:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:
