I’d like to take a moment to talk about this..

I noticed, upon my last purchase, that the Napa Part no. 8822 oil dry seemed.. different.... in color, fine percentage as well as weight.

Way fewer fines... darker color, and lighter.. upon my investigation, the “make-up” as far as listed ingredients/components is the same.

So my only guess is that this 8822 is coming from a different diatomite source or location.

When I went to speak with pur Regional (just 3) NAPA owner/manager.. he responded, “Oh! I’m real sorry! ..does it not work anymore?” To which I responded.. “Well it works the same, if not better!”.....

Soooo I don’t think I will get a satisfying answer.

🤣

I'll check into it when I'm at work later today. I haven't opened up my new bags yet so I haven't seen if it is different but I should be able to check with corporate and see if we have a new supplier.

good info

you reminded me, it was funny i was putting windshield cleaning fluid in resevoir in truck and i overfilled and it has a auto spillover...
so i got to use my oildri substrate for its main purpose and cleaned the spill up with it yesterday (didnt want me dog getting into it)

indirect benefit to having the stuff around for bonsai

looks like Walter Paul uses this type of clay in his substrate i noticed, could be wrong.

Cool! Thanks!

I wanted an “I’m really curious”-style answer.. WITHOUT complaining.

I BELIEVE Mr. Pall ... sometimes I call him “Pall Wall”, uses an Akadama-Heavy mix.. I could be wrong, though.

He can afford, and his trees DESERVE, that REEEAL sexy substrate.

Sometimes, when filling up the work truck with diesel, I noticed the big trash cans full of oil dry for spills. I look into those cans am like-“ oh my, look at all that soil! “
In reality it’s probably only like 20$ worth🤣.

Well nothing that I can find is showing it's any different. Our supplier is EP minerals still and the msds sheet is from 2015. I called our corporate office in Atlanta and none one there knew anything.

The previous bags I got looks the same as my last batch as well. I ordered some more in from Phoenix, LA and Fresno to see if those are any different.

Well dang! I thought I took pictures!!
Hang on a second.. here is a video from a while back that I used in discussion with another member. This is how it used to/always looked.. (Well.. this is my non-organic growth MIXTURE.. but you’ll get the idea.)

In a few minutes i’ll take some pictures of the newer stuffZ

Don't remember where I heard it, but I heard the multi-colored stuff is better (less prone to dissolving after freezing).

I remember reading somewhere that EP Minerals mine DE from Oregon and Nevada so with 2 differnt sources you'll get 2 different products both sold as the same product. I wish I remembered where I read that so I could site sources.

Where I'm at I've only ever gotten the multi colored stuff you have pictured above.

So cool/fascinating!!!

I normally would get larger, almost triangular particles that were GRAY... like.. smack gray. With the OCCASIONAL piece colored as shown above.

THIS(these) bag (bags) does seem to be of “better” quality than those gray chunks... but not much... just different.

Probably not much difference in performance for the "intended use" of the product, so they don't bother distinguishing.

Yes.. this was how I felt it was regarded when I asked.. because honestly.. there’s not TOO much difference in THIS use, either!
HAHAHA!

I used to know a guy, Named ben, we called him “Big Crazy Ben”, I once coaxed a loaded rifle out of his hands to prevent him from shooting through his floor at the convicted pedophiles who lived below him, but ANYWAYS...

The guy DESPISED the specialized pot market, basically thought pot was pot.. some good, some bad..

He used to always say to people, who he was selling to, “Yeeah! I got this killer strain, it’s called “weed”” -all mad-like...

What’re we talking about..

Oh yeah! Sources!

I just went to their site and it said thay source it from Oregon and Nevada.

https://epminerals.com/minerals

I wonder if there is info on the bags that tells which site the DE was sourced from. Would be nice to know what type we were getting before buying.

Nothing on the bags that distinguish the source that I've seen

Part #8822 is always the same

I don't know about these but I doubt they would give a clue to source.
