Curly Willow 2.5 year progression from hard chop to detail wiring

Can't wait for the next episode!
Thanks. The root grafts are growing well and are about 5 feet tall now. Hoping for some major thickening and fusion this season!

I did lose a minor branch over the winter (on the left) due to not doing a great job of apex parity. On curly willows, you have to make sure the foliage of all branches is at equal height, because they will drop branches that are getting shaded out like that one was.

But I think it's an improvement anyway because it was thinner than the other branches despite being lower on the tree.

I have loved reading this thread. I have a curly willow that has about an inch and a half thick trunk that I’m planning on turning into a bonsai. I will do a before and after photo and share. I’m definitely a noob and this will be my first attempt at making a bonsai plant. Someone gave me a pot with a curly willow and I just sat it the edge of my woods thinking it would die but surprisingly it has survived and has a couple of “babies” to experiment on.

Love this post. I snipped a 6” twig off a corkscrew willow from a nursery tree while I was buying a European beech. Stuck the twig in a glass of water and 2 days later it hay’s roots already. Your post is my working inspiration.
