This tree was run over by a big tractor. The trunk was cracked right at the base.

The leaves on the tiny branch are getting weaker and no sign of new buds. Come on tree, fight fight fight!!!

What would be a good pot for a clump like this? The center tree is rotting away.
Uncle, I think a round, rectangular or oval will do.... I would probably start wire the little trunks and arrange them in the shape I like at this point since they grow fast.

I think I might just lift the whole thing out of that big 30 gallon pot and put it in a big mica pot with minimal root work just to fit. That will give me access to the clump to wire. Right now I can't see them well enough to shape them.

The trunk was infested with fire ants. I had two tiers of roots. Both tiers have roots in all the wrong places. Wound up doing severe work on the tree but either that or it will never be a bonsai. Here to hope for its survival.

Is it not advised to put live oak in a medium with lots of drainage?

I had a yamadori that did fine through the winter but when I repotted into a non-organic growth medium in a warm climate in mid-Feb, it doesn’t seem to be doing well. It dropped all its leaves which is a thing they do at this time, but I see no new buds yet.
