Could a conifer/juniper work for this

I actually like the combo, but then again I'm kinda unorthodox with pots and how I match them up.

Aaron

I am also to a degree. But,thanks!

I don't like a lot of the glazed stuff as Darlene knows but I admit there is a lot of nice one's out there. Here almost everything gets an unglazed whatever dark color clay they used making the pot - to "me" they are still nice.

It really does not matter if "you" like it - so be it.

Now when it comes time for show - whole different game! I don't have to worry it all of mine are empty anyways :p

Yes,you like your trees to be the highlight. I get that. I've come across a few like that.

I find it interesting and most of all because it seems more gender specific to males. The pot Adair suggested for an example, myself, Smoke and many of the guys would go the same route. I also find it interesting that many of the men also collect a LOT of fancy glazed and designed pots and I probably would as well if we were still at the big place ;)

In the event I mentioned all of the winners were in "my" opinion way to fancy and the results surprised me as their were some VERY nice subtle pieces there.

As I mentioned though I think your combo will look good and post when it is ready!

Fascinating isn't it...glad that it sounds like a fare judging and well balanced out in who placed. I really need to look into when the timing is for repotting junipers. Since they were not really thought out...and given to me. I don't know when it's appropriate. Thanks Grimmy... will do a share photo if and when it gets placed in its new pot.

Now, and not again probably for 3 - 5 years ;)

Fine by me! Lol will have to await its arrival (the pot)

Think it could go into Wee Tree mix, or should I order Boon from them. Theirs is organic to a degree. Though the juniper is in regular potting soil like it arrived...thoughts?

thoughts?

Leave the stuff on that sticks to what you do not have to cut off. Slip pot it into anything that drains like Niagara Falls. I find the less you mess with the roots the better and eventually the Organics will drain through, decompose, etc...

I really need to clarify so it does not land up dead. As above you would use a similar mix as to what it is now. It is probably in a very good topsoil with sand and perlite. As with any repot fan the roots a bit.

If you do go with a inorganic it is a whole different situation unless it already is in it.

I'm pondering...you say now is the right time. Yet I will need to keep the roots from freezing...yet. I also need to keep my dormant trees cold. I was glad to see colder temps to allow a better dormant period in the forecast. Could this be done...say, closer to spring? Allowing my dormant trees that cold rest period a bit longer.

I only repot Junipers when they are sleeping and never yearly. I suspect some I did last Winter will not see a repot for 5 years or more. Would be interested to know what others do but it is what works for me.

I am not certain what you mean when you need to keep the roots from freezing. Mine have stayed frozen in past Winters with no ill effects.

I assumed that like most repots...roots are protected from freezing once done. No?

Well February is when I normally would repot a Juniper here. They are not frozen at that time but certainly dormant. I have had only needed not to let them dry out completely. They have frozen in the past afterwards but myself have not seen it as being a problem, just a break from light watering. Works ok here as well on Conifers.

The deciduous trees and other plants were done as needed later once budding.

Again, not certain what others do - just sharing what has worked for me. I never really have read up on it and just have been "winging" it. My interest in them started when I observed what my Wife had done over the years that ended up with dead Junipers.

This pot arrived today...very pleased with my purchase. I think it should work. What is great...it's shades of color goes well with the cascade juniper that it came with. I tend to put them together on the bench. So pleased with that.

Please, what is cone 10o_O.

I found this chart to help explain http://www.clay-king.com/kilns/pyrometric_cone_temperature_chart.html It shows the higher the cone value the hotter the item is being "fired" at. Higher fired pottery is far less porous and far more durable for many reasons. For example in Bonsai pots or containers that are left outdoors in cold Winter months - they are less likely to fail/crack then a inexpensive clay pot. They do not absorb water and freeze which causes cracking. There are other reasons but to me it is essential where I live to only use pottery cone 6 or higher.

Grimmy

Aren't glazes fired at different cones for different effects too?

I can only tell you what I need for outdoors but I am pretty certain you are correct. That being said I get cone 6 or higher. I don't normally get glazed so I really never read up on it.

Grimmy

What cone is this?

Many Thanks for chart. While confusing it was also enlightening;).
