Quick question, were the last set of pines you put on ebay sown this year or last year?

Here they are @ 11/01/23——11/15/23.
So they were sprouted from seed about a month before and made seedling cuttings.
So 5 months!!!!

I actually started them way to early.
After learning that mI have decided to strike many cuttings this season and they should set a winter budset and then I will keep dormant till around January and fill the whole grow fascility at once this coming winter season.

That makes everything so much easier and productive in terms of applying better starter programs on all trees at same time rather that have a table of differing growth stages requiring differing water times……..it can be a bit of a struggle if they are not at exact same growth stage.

These also got extremely crowded the last 4 to 6 weeks in the grow facility. There were so high calcium, though that when I did separate them the vast majority of them greened right up …..the ones that were a bit lacking of light are out in the sunshine now, but they already look nearly perfect, and in another four months you will not tell the difference.
These will literally explode in the growth as they were all extremely viable, strong and healthy….. Just lacking a bit of light .
I up-potted all the ones held back into 3 inch Delta 4 stonewool blocks to give them rooting room to spread the roots and by autumn and spring next year they’ll be very nice and full as I’ve seen even seedlings do this their 2nd season, they are amazingly green and healthy with Buds popping everywhere.***Check last 3 pictures***

I never can make that mistake again as it ended up being a bit more work during the last month in the grow facility.

So prepared seedlings that are tiny and dormant is key so you can just fill the table all at once and get them growing.They only need about three months and they are super big in the CO2 fertilization .
Any more and it’s too long and they shade out from being too close together.

I am new to the site, and seeing an operation like yours is inspiring to really look at the finer details of how nutrients and grow light can affect the hardiness and usefulness of resulting growth. Amazing work.

More pics of the light recipe technique.

All the lights are blue spectrum enhanced veg only lights!!
They will not even cause a plant to flower or ripen buds or flowers that well.

This is quite nice to moniter in the evenings.

These are all Siberian Elm except for one tray of Coreana var. Hornbeam.
Quite a large crop that will be ready in Autumn and for sale over winter also since very Hardy.

Also it is good to consider making a ring-bark and girdle/ground-layer just at the roots fo a more detailed nebari starter.

This is simple because all these are fertilized continuously with a 1:1 motherplant ratio fertilzer and will root an air-layer in less than two weeks.There is always signs of root popping on first few inches of the trunk since very prepared to do so…..like I could almost guarantee that!!!

Are you practicing for when cultivating a certain plant becomes legal??? I'm pretty sure u know this but sir your grow area is NICE!!! All I can think of is SOG growing method.

That is funny I actually had my MMJ card in 2019 and 2021…. I even worked as a cultivator at Franklin labs in Reading Pennsylvania ( TRULIEVE). That was actually a very rewarding, meditative and fun job.

Oddly, my first desire to grow hydroponically was for bonsai in 2017, and it is what I initially studied my Hydroponics course to grow was bonsai.


There was even employers assuming I was going to grow marijuana, and I never did …….my home environment is just not conducive to that with family members, and I did eventually abandon the card and the habit.

But ,when I was working at Trulieve, which was last year, all I did was envision ways to increase their profit, they grow in promix for economic and efficiency and speed. It’s like I could’ve literally cut their expenses by 50% with applying Japanese horticulture to the plants!!!

Like each of the plants would have always about 10 colas (or you know 2 foot-long Buds shoots) per plant ……………with Ringbarking and other ancient Japanese method, and shorter internodes and blue light recipes. I envisioned about 45 colas (bud stems )per plant.haha

To answer your inquiry, though, I am quite excited to experiment with it, but I am quite the legal eagle here on my property at my home environment and with my studying family members(school)….. It’s just not the time for me or my homeland……..although it’s legal five minutes from my house and I do prefer to work in Maryland honestly..haha

45 colas is definitely possible!!! Managed about 60+ with topping(similar to what we call pinching)and growing under a scrog net. Total weight from one plant was over 1.2 lbs dried and cured. As a fellow past hydroponics guy I love what I see. Its nice that you've found a way to continue the love for hydroponics and bonsai together.
Quick question, I use to clone plants with a home made misting system do you think it would work with Japanese maple cuttings?

PICTURES OF WORK AROUND THE GARDEN TODAY!!

The growhouse crop and the Euonymous Alatas air-layer project.
I plan to make about 70 air-layers per season as long as I am at my current residence.
Its cool…..I slip the stonewool mini-blocks over the branches when there is no leaves in Winter!!!

The growhouse is best when the entire crop is started at once like this…They are all currently getting a root starter fertilizer with added mono ammonium phosphate for a few weeks at a very low seedling strength fertilizer.
This can make 20% more roots on a seedling.THIS IS A VERY GOOD,YET SIMPLE,CONCEPT.
20% more roots at the start = 20% more calcium and other essential bio-stimulants at the very begginning on the tiny seedling…….a much bigger roots system all through the cycle actually advances them quite profoundly throughout their life cycles.

The korean Hornbeam‘s are nice I do have more, but this is from a Coreana Hornbeam I harvested in Philadelphia Park about an hour from my home…. very local and honestly they look a bit more vibrant than the usual seeds that are imported from other countries or wherever suppliers get their Coreana Hornbeam seeds.

I will harvest more of them next season if these turn out right and there’s a guaranteed sense about them.

SIBERIAN ELM ARE GETTING A NICE START.

A good slow start is preferable with attention to root strength first for 2-3 weeks.

The added blue spectrum does great for slowing meristem growth and keep a more compact plant……..very low ec @ .5 ec

I am considering to bring these outdoors in another couple weeks and starting an entire batch of Pine seedling and whatever other seed I have readily stratified.

The Pine seedling would benefit from the 18 hour lights on cycle for sure and then set outdoors in August to bud up for winter.

These are all growing at ambient co2 levels,but with abundant bio-stimulant hydroponic technique for a very healthy and vigorous plant.

SIBERIAN ELM CROP ENDING THE ROOT STARTER …


I have decided to keep growing quite sslowly though….makes them really strong rooted.I can really see the effects of blue enhanced light,calcium and bio-stimulants making these very vigorous……like tiny motherplants….

The calcium pectate is noticable already on the leaves and stems as a shiny gleen and turgid appearance…..the result of high brix and use of the amino acids to increase calcium uptake bigtime!

I am almost at the point of stalling these…….low intensity lights and very low fertilizer at .4-.5 ec.

These will be going outside and they will grow while I let sacrifice leaders grow,but at the same time remove all the leaves on the interior of the meristem sacrifice leader only leaving the top few leaves…….then no light starvation at the bottom and also a thickening stem…….These will sell around Late Summer /Autumn.

It seems I learn every year……….I started way to early last season and too many different batches where they were all at different stages and hard to manipulate as best as I wanted……makes watering and root starting and other boosting techniques way more difficult……..to the point where I actully lost alot of trees that shaded too much……some over-watered too.

SO AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICTURES THEY ARE MUCH BETTER STARTED IN A SINGLE WHOLE CROP!!

THESE WILL GO OUTSIDE TOWARDS END OF MAY AND I WILL START A SEEDLING JAPANESE BLACK PINE CROP IN THE GROWHOUSE AND THEN ALSO BRING THEM OUT IN EARLY AUGUST TO HARDEN UP FOR WINTER………IT WILL BE NICE FOR THE WINTER CROP OF CUTTINGS TO FILL IN THE GAPS WITH 2ND SEASON JBP SEEDLINGS THAT ARE VERY SMALL ,BUT WILL SHOOT A SMALL CANDLE JUST BEFORE SALE NEXT SEASON………….AND HAVE AN EVEN STARTING CROP SUCH AS THE ELMS AND FILL THE TABLE AT ONCE……50/50 cuttings /seedlings JAPANESE BLACK PINE.THE 2nd SEASON JBP SEEDLINGS WILL BE NICE WITH THEIR SHORT LITTLE 2nd season CANDLES GROWING.

I DECIDED TO GROW THESE SIBERIAN ELM ALMOST ENTIRELY IN THE GROWHOUSE!!


I will continue removing the leaves from the elongating meri-stem so as the trunk will thicken ,but light can continue to reach all these seedlings and the vigor will remain active in the important first 5” of these seedlings……..by August these will grow and thicken nicely and be suitable starters!!

Or else they would shade each other out in this growing quantity so close together………this should effectively create quite a large amount of little starter trees!!

Every couple days I go in there and I pluck leaves off the meri-stems of these.

THE SIBERIAN ELM ARE ALL OUTSIDE!!

These are growing great.Put a few hundred i to 3x3x2.5” delta 4 grodan blocks…….They were set into full sun today and should really grow nicely.Hoping to get extra trunk on these.

Really great early start on these…high brix growth started slowly and roots first for a wonderful start put outside for the beginning of Summer growth.

I also chopped my two year old Siberian Elm bonsai…was skipping waterings from working, so decided to chop low for some super clump style bonsai……I will proceed to cut this back to the ground every season…SUPER CLUMP BONSAI STYLE!!!
Definately a plus for the air-layers or even just the regular seedling will have great effect!

FROM 1400 SIBERIAN ELM SEEDLINGS APPEARS A PECULIAR ONE.

So what are the odds of this being a dwarf selection that just puts on a few nodes a season…..it just suddenly stopped growing ,but the trunk has thickened and it remains healthy and high brix as can be..

PINES LOOK NICE!

These are doing fine albeit the very extended first season.Some quite nice irregular ones I found.
Literally tons of Siberian Elm…..keeping and letting grow…….300 are in 4” blocks……maybe a bunch more will be next spring and I will lay them out onto the ground fabric!
I’m keeping the Siberian Elms healthy !!
