EVERYTHING IS SO LUSH THIS TIME OF YEAR!!
Dropped nitrogen and upped potassium some…..Trees are great.Very full and budded.I am happy with this feed regime….If only a tray big enough for permanent placement all growing season…….It is very handy to set these in the flood table and flush them very thouroghly once in awhile….or often. The trees appreciate it for sure. And with the addition of powdered enzymes the media should be leaching any salt residue quite effectively.
The Siberian Elm should be very nice when the trunk swells up next season.A fine specimen in the making. The air-layered trunk will fatten up …….can already see this……probably moreso than shown ,as is usually the case in a stonewool Delta block or the Grow wool.
The 2nd season pines are outstanding…growthwise……they get a three month head start in the co2 in their first season only. This explains the gigantic growth!!!
They are quite full all the way to the base and I envision a more straight style JBP bonsai than anything…….Will be fun when I am at this stage.I will have to start maintaining lower growth and thinning topmost leaders, but at the same time the kelp foliar feeds may keep this lower growth quite fine.It looks very stable and healthy.
And with these the trunk is very noticably getting big under the media in the 3” Delta Block.Should be quite fantastic when I see the next couple seasons results…..should be huge…already 1.25” just into the Delta Block.Awesome 2nd growing season for sure.
The Delta Blocks and the increased air-pruning will definately save these……they have dried down completely about 3 times!!! Duhhh
I did notice some cell damage on the pine leaves after a customer notified me the same on his purchased cuttings that almost resembled the start of needlecast or something from this mistake, but they recovered very quickly.I was glad he notified me of this. There is totally no signs of needlecast.I got a little lazy with the watering.……..I never treat these pines with fungicide…..just some natural yucca powder and very increased calcium……Bio-Fungicide method…( experimental ).
These pines recovered very quickly from the drought damage. This could be in part to the large amounts of vitamin B and magnesium sulphate I add to the resevoir….apparently puts the plants on high alert for cell damage….like an anti biotic….ADP or something its called? Vitamin B on a magnesium sulphate carrier.
The 3 first season JBP seedling cuttings are looking great!
They are in 3” Delts blocks and will go into Rootpouch next Spring……should be amazingly big next season.I’m very happy with them.
The little Zelkovas have very high brix leaves….a good sign. And growing in full sunshine!
All and all the growth seems fine with the stonewool and perlite medias…along with the Rootpouch ,which I prefer, so no media gets into my resevoir.
The big Delta blocks do fine frozen solid too as mine definately were……At night I did shut the wooden cold frame though when below freezing…..Still frozen solid for weeks and weeks with no loss of roots.
Had 18” candles growing in the Spring!!!
