Bud breaking....

Looks like this week is the week for some of my trees to wake up.
I have many trees and species but the one that wake up first is Chinese Quince. I already saw some of the buds started to move.

Man ...My CQ was breaking buds like a month ago when the weather was in the 30s-40s and then we had the really cold front for like 2 weeks which ended a few days ago thank god.

I’m just 4hrs northeast of Houston in Louisiana, things are beginning to wake up here too.

If you're getting 80s, you are going to have everything break at once. get to repotting. Hopefully you won't get more freezing weather in the coming month or so. Feb/March is iffy here in N. Va. March always brings warm ups then freezes and snow. I have to keep an eye on how fast buds "move" and then try to get things to slow down. Leaves in late February are a problem for me. In Houston, not so much.

My Chinese quince also going but admittedly always is the first one. Checked my note from last year… very similar. Though seems next two weeks here in Shanghai really cold… as oppose to last year when it started to warm up slowly

My shohin Chinese quince... from... Florida? Is way ahead of my other one. But as stated they are always early...and my southern trees always wake early until they fall truly into my seasons.


We are to see 60's here. I'll be venting. But also watching trees closely. I've new ones from down south needing repots. This one here is under grow lights in the cold greenhouse.

33 F in my cold room right now... at least the pots aren't frozen solid like they were a week ago .
Seriously jealous of the warm weather right now, but I'm ok with the cold weather I currently have. I'll be doing a lot of work trying to keep things in the 30's in there for the next 6 weeks or so.

Been in the 40-35F all day and 22-25F at night. Finally seeing a break in the weather next week.

At PBM working, mostly cleaning trees and lumber sulfuring today and took a couple minutes off to look at the display….

Same here. Tridents and elms are budding out and we got lows in the teens on the 18th and 19th. Low of 12, which is pretty low this late.

Tridents, elms, J maples, quince, pomegranate. Ume are done already. Camellia's are blooming. Blue oak, valley oak are pushing. Not sure the scrub oak every really stopped, but it's speeding up.

I know! Same situation in West Monroe, Louisiana. It’s going to hard freeze and I’ve been repotting trees already… I have leaves on a few species..
