Bjorn at MACH5's (Subalpine Fir)

Such a beautiful tree and made all the more interesting by the unusual back story. After looking at it before and after the first styling....I never saw that coming! 🙂 Second styling is just amazing.

Horst may be a good option as I like the textural articulation of his surfaces. But I also feel I need to be somewhat careful because I would not want something so textured that it would take away from what's happening on the trunk itself. I also see maybe a nice Ron Lang pot here as well.

I also thought briefly about a slab but somehow having trouble reconciling the two together. But perhaps?

I think the deadwood/ bark has enough texture that a textured pot would be too much. A smooth rounded rectangle with chunky simple feet is what it tells me. It does need some sort of detail though, maybe a slight lip? Or maybe a line trim, just lower on the pot.

Outstanding tree in its own.

Well, as you may have noticed, I’m kind of partial to the Horst textures.🙂 Here’s my Subalpine after its latest styling.

Very nice pot/tree combo! I've come to appreciate Horst's pots. Although the one I have paired with my linden has no texture, I've come to really like that container quite a bit.

Finally an update...
...Now it was my turn to take it one more step forward. This is its second styling work.

Sergio, this second styling is amazing!
If the first one by Bjorn gave the tree all the structure and shape, the second one gave it refinement and elegance.
Wonderful tree!

As for the pot, a soft square, untextured?
😉

Thanks, thinking along those same lines as well. Something with a bit of texture might be good but I can also see something clean to offset some of the wild characteristics of the tree itself.

Thanks @Clicio ! Of course the idea was to build on the previous work, in this case Bjorn's. The tree has filled out a bit more so gave me the opportunity to lengthen some of its lines where needed as well as define more concretely the foliage pads.

I love to see very refined trees but I wanted to be careful here that I did not take out too much its wild characteristics.

Great tree. I would use a flat stone or slab. Somethnig like a tree growing on the edge of a cliff...

Martin, that may be a good possibility and go less traditional. Walter's spruces on slabs are good inspiration!

I may do a virtual and see.

Why a slab ? Isn't everybody doing slabs nowadays :)

Try to think out of the box (pun intended)... why not a hollowed out trunk, burned black to preserve the wood (Yakisugi or Shou sugi ban like) and name it the Fenix comming out of the ashes it lives in... just a thought ;)

Nice! I like the continuity of the story. I see you saw my post on FB?

One thing to keep in mind is the hierarchy of elements. So whatever is done needs to support the story and not become the headline.

Yes I saw your FB post;)
Absolutely true about supporting the story, and not becoming the headline, didn’t think about that, but maybe there is a way of toning it down so it’s not the eye catcher ? Just thinking 🤔
