Big bald cypress 911

I treated a healthy temperate tree as a tropical...and it declined through winter...and never was able to recover once spring arrived. And died shortly afterwards. At least your BC... was free...so no huge loss of out of pocket expense.

I would doubt that putting it into the greenhouse will do any good either. BC require dormancy. You're pushing an already stressed tree to continue growing without that. Cross your fingers.

If it were mine, I'd just plant it in the ground and let it be.

I agree...it has a better chance at pulling through going your route. I know what a healthy tree did treated as a tropical. my first winter in...and boy was I schooled when the thing died. Good lesson learned. Won't be doing that anytime soon. And actually see me just staying away from temperate trees. There are more trees than that list to go by.

I do wish I took some pictures when I did the repot. I've worked at a nursery for a while now and I know when trees won't last through winter. This one wasnt going to.
I have successfully wintered temperate trees that were highly stressed in my greenhouse for 2 winters now, haven't had any die. But I do know the microclimates in my greenhouse, and there are areas that can be 50 degrees constantly and areas that will be 80 degrees consistently. I just know where to place them and when to do it. I'm not saying im some guru that can treat any trees like tropicals, but I am saying that I've had great success wintering stressed trees being treated more as a subtropical then they normally would be.
Another option is to store it at my work in one of the houses that stay between 35 and 50 degrees all winter, which may be my best option.
I guess I'll see what I decide on.

If you have that option by all means go with if you must bring it in at all. Also, cover the root mass with anything, even nursery mix for the winter period... ;)
