Ok I shifted it around last night.. no buds moving no other roots taken off… only did it originally Monday. Went off a template in a Bonsai Salkei book I own of arrangement in rectangular pot.

The one small tree On right never took off but it’s regrown buds to set up for next year .. I gotta drive buds down on branches to eventually reduce heigh but also let them grow into the pot more

I took out two trees and didn’t like , and one of them still has some damage from white aphids went Jean-Claude Van Damm on them with horticultural oil , and did some partial defoliation

I’m gonna reposition the trees closer together repositioning the trees now that I know more about forests . and repot this group with larger soil it’s in super fine shohin soil but I think it’s too inhibiting growth I’dike

Still unsure about European beech in general I may try to do a a beech forest but I did some pruning and a reset on some along with some light wiring

Feel your pain trying a forest. Read through the thread as I tried starting a European beech forest this spring as well. Definitely hard and mine are in a wooden box but was recommended to develop some trees together and couple separate to have variety in sizes. At least yours does have some differences in thicknesses. I was amazed at how challenging it is to place trees so think your doing well and continue to improve it over time.

Thanks I think my pain was I was soooo eager to use this pot .. but in reality the best sop for forests is to grow in a flat or box for 2-3 years atleast so you get good spacing that’s natural and growth on the trees

I hear ya on that. First year goal to get everything in a pot. Now I dont know if I have anything in a bonsai pot except a small trident forest since trees were small and needed to pot them. Otherwise all my trees are in some type of grow containers.
