In this video, I share the story of my bald cypress bonsai that I’ve named “Resurrection.” 🙏 This tree was carefully harvested from the wild, and over the past two years it has undergone an incredible transformation. From its rough beginnings to its refined shape today, you’ll see the full projection of its progression—proof of just how resilient and full of character bald cypress bonsai can be.

I’ll take you behind the scenes of where I collected it, what steps I took to bring it back to life, and how consistent work and patience have shaped its style. 🌱✂️

This is more than just bonsai—it’s about revival, persistence, and beauty in growth. 💫

👉 Watch the progression and join me in celebrating the journey of Resurrection.

Damn...I really enjoyed the video. Very unusual tree...and I like it a lot.
I'm not sure about the left branch. It does bother me some...maybe because it comes forward some, and competes/interferes with the focal point...the dead wood.
I find the pinching interesting to. Do you just pinch away some of the leaf...? Do you do it on all the leaves....or selected ones..?

You pinch just the tips of the new growth. If you go to the bald Cypress Bonsai Facebook group under documents, you can see an explanation of this technique by Randy Bennett.

Damn...again. Thanks for that...I joined the page. There's some beautiful trees and good information on there. Looks like a good community.
I've downloaded the file off the page...but trying to figure out where it is on my phone...
I'm mulling over this leaf pinching technique though...🥸
Its well known that by trimming shoots back budding is induced via auxin flow disruption.
I'm not seeing auxin flow being disrupted by pinching a leaf. Not disputing...just contemplating.
Have you tried it and actually found that it works for back budding...?

I would have to admit this is the first growing season I have done this technique. Thinking I may need another one to make assessment.

Well this coming growing season i'll be trying it out with you...😉
I'll try it on a certain part of the tree only....as a comparison.

@johng (John Geanangel) is highly knowledgeable on Bald Cypress, maybe he will chime in on this technique as well.

How are you preserving the deadwood? Bald cypress deadwood rots pretty quickly from my experience. Interesting tree, Keep us updated as it goes!

Here is my part two with my "Resurrection" Bald Cypress

🌳 Bald Cypress Bonsai Journey – Part 2 🌿In this episode, I continue the story of my Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum) that I personally harvested from a Louisiana bayou. 🛶 This part of the series dives into the critical steps I’ve taken after the summer growth period, preparing the tree for the colder season ahead ❄️.

I like the flow of the tree....something different.
Also looking forward to the progression of it.
Thanks for the update.
