Azalea seeds received from Glaucus.

Hi Fredman and Mark,
So my skills at raising azalea seed is woeful at best. Prick them out but can’t keep them alive. After battling away at work trying to germinate these, I started at home instead and have had success. What’s it been, like 3 years lol!!
My latest success is from leftover seed sown in July last year.

These are getting quite big but I am plucking up the courage to prick these out soon.

Those look really good, Charles. Yes, I would plant them out, if the weather allows it. Find some rainy days before summer ends. Some good soil and surely these will take off. You could even try full ground, if that's an option.
I will be interested in if you can get a really dark red from those MF x As seedlings (Midnight Flare x Asahi no Izumi). But I guess you want one that's white? Check the stems to see what flower colour they likely have. There should be a couple of green stemmed ones. Results by Bob Stewart suggest Midnight Flare has the potential for bicolours. And my own result also shows a mix of green and reddish stems.

You had better luck with Sm x e than I had (Sumika x Hekisui). I realize you had some struggles, but this batch looks absolutely excellent. In fact, they seem to be growing so rapidly, you'd risk missing watering them. If they get moved outdoors, be sure to harden them off to the outdoor environment slowly. Wind and direct sun could harm their lush growth. Maybe the prop greenhouse would be best.
