I have a fairly large (2" base) Atlas Cedar that is in a 5 gal nursery pot that is really heathy and I am wanting to reduce the rootball and get it in a much shallower pot. I am looking for preferably zone 9 or higher experienced advice as to when is the best time to pull this off.

Not sure what zone I'm in, but my cedars did best when repotted just before spring. Like a week or two before growth starts.
Cedars can be picky about root work and don't tolerate root pruning as much compared to other conifers, so please consider setting up a multi year reduction plan.
