Anyone entering trees?
Anyone planning on going?

It at the Portland art museum Sept. 25-27.

First place is 10k. I gotta ask is that a normal purse for bonsai comps. That's one area of the art I haven't really looked into is competitions and shows. I'm not going to have anything showable for at least 5yrs so why bother. Anyways I was just wondering because I know a lot of you guys have been to shows and shown trees yourself. Is a multi-thousand dollar purse normal for podium finishers?

BB, it's all a question of perspective. Think of any hobby or passion or competitive event whether it be dogs, cats, orchids, horses, beauty contest or athletics, you name it. As the competitive standards rise from local to state to regional to national the field narrows. This is a national exhibition conceived to further the art of bonsai so the incentives are a reflection are what is the best "way" to improve American bonsai

I'd love to go and exhibit out there. I have a tree that is lower-level interesting, but the problem with big shows in the U.S. is distance and logistics. To exhibit on the west coast when you live on the east coast and vice versa involves shipping the tree. Although this show has taken that obstacle into account and has special trucks taking in trees on the east coast and ferrying them to the show, I can't really get past the possibility of a disaster in shipping, be it broken branches, pots, (or worse, knock wood).

I hoping to go. Who else is going, not many replies here?

This event and a trip to Elandan Gardens, going to be good!

Yes, I am submitting a tree.
If its accepted, I intend on going to Oregon.
Sleep on the couch in Adam Lavigne's hotel room.
