Thinking about some late winter/spring projects…
Has anybody had success scion grafting (side veneer grafting) with elms? Or deciduous trees in general?
I’ve had success with juniper and pine. But for some reason, doing it on the deciduous tree seems more challenging although I know people have been doing it a long time with fruiting trees.
I have a few chunky Siberian Elms that I’d like to possibly graft with Seiju elm.
Thanks

This is done all the time with deciduous trees - just look at Japanese maples and you will see that 99% of all cultivars will be propagated via scion grafts. I can't say that I have ever seen this done with elms - possibly because elms can be propagated so easily via cutting or root cutting. I just don't think many people see the need (for elms) since they grow like weeds. Even seiju elms develop quite substantial corky trunks if you give them a little time.

Thanks bmut!
. Just trying to get a jumpstart with collected stuff that I have on hand and get better with grafting.

I have never tried... and to be honest am not aware of anyone who has. I would think it would be pretty straight-forward(?) Give it a go and let us know!
