This Maple has been in the front of our house for atleast 10 years.
It gets absolutely blasted by full sun every summer sometimes 110 F aswell.
It has had a rough life.

I did a little bit of searching and landed on potentially being a `Koto Maru` but I'm far from an expert.
I have tried to clean it up a bit recently as it was just a mess of dead branches and tangles.
But now it looks like a Tim Burton rendition of a tree.

I'm wondering if i shouldn't dig it up put it in my backyard in a planter and drastically cut it back to give it a new lease on life.
I could also airlayer one of the top branches and plant that back in this spot and use the trunk to grow a bonsai out of?

Basically looking for some ideas on what this tree is and what it could be with the appropriate care.

there are several thousands of Japanese maple cultivars. So if you do not have the name, naming it is pretty much impossible.

Since you already alluded to it, I think you should call it Tim! Timmy!

Maybe give it plenty of fertilizer next year and just gently round the top? If it's been there that long it must be able to cope with the conditions.

If you want to layer it i would start with the upper sections first, if they fail for any reasons you could still shape the primary truck.
