Anyone order a pot from this guy

With reviews, I always look for people leaving reviews with photos. This shop has one review with a photo as far as I can see. I wouldn't personally order from them considering the very steep price especially for a Chinese store.
That’s really very funny. I actually wrote three reviews for the products we received. 😉.

As far as price goes, each to his own. The security, selection and ease of ordering from the Etsy sites was a big plus.

I'm talking with a potter here on B'nut about a commissioned pot that will fit the bill. He's domestic and has some decent designs and is game to make a very large pot.

I'm encouraged by DSD's experience though. Good to have a back-up if I need it. Also, I have to admit, Above the concerns on the sale itself, I'm not real excited about another Yxing pot. I've had mediocre experience with them, even the high end stuff. I have found they tend to leach minerals through the walls of the pot sides after about five years. Also freezing can pop glazes off...

I followed your link and tried to get information on policy for breakage or lost items in shipping. Was unable to find any written comments or guidelines except contact seller! Might be just my age but I would not put too much confidence in reviews posted on the same site. Just some thoughts, The prices seem high for the product, similar product is much more reasonably priced on other sites such as: http://www.pecenppot.com/
I find it is important to know the details in particular the minimum order amount to obtain the price quoted or free shipping advertised. You are sensible to be cautious.
Actually the prices are not all that unreasonable given they include shipping. But, it gave me pause when I was prompted to input my phone number if I tried to put a pot in my shopping cart. They said it was for the shipper, but I hadn't ordered anything...

Glad to hear about a local potter. That’s heartening. I’ve been having issues getting some to actually make the sizes I request. Others aren’t taking special requests. Likely just isolated cases, yet off putting.

Dunno what happened in your Etsy case. I just added a pot into the cart with no issues… but I’m also signed in. Btw…additionally use PayPal for overseas purchases if at all possible… gives that extra edge if something goes awry.

Good to know. Have had some of the xing pots for 3 years. Ones not in use are out on or under the bench year around, so I’ll keep an eye open.

cheers

I've used Paypal a lot. It was weird to have that additional request for personal info just to put into a cart. I've never had that happen before. Have done business on Etsy forever, including Europe and Asia purchases.

I really like yxing pots, but some of them have issues. It can be a crap shoot. The current pot the oak is in is Chinese. I've had it for two decades or more. It has been outstanding. It has a bit of leaching, but not much. It is not delicate and is rock solid. Only real wear has been to the interior of the feet, which have chipped a bit from being moved over the years.

On the other hand, I've had Yxing pots that have leached through in two years--spalled glazes after three, or simply crumbled. It's hard to tell which pots will act up. I still have a number of them though.

I’ve bought pots from them a couple of times and been satisfied with the pots that I received. They packed everything in styrofoam and generally did a good job of packing things. Nonetheless, one pot was cracked in shipping. I took a photo and messaged them on Etsy. Tommao sent me a replacement. No hassle at all. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy from them again.

That said, I’ve never purchased any really large pots from them (or anyone else), so I can’t say with any confidence what the chances are for a large pot to survive whatever rough handling the shipping carriers may throw at it.

Thats weird. I have a few xing pots for several years and never noticed this.

Jeesh. Pots are so expensive there. They'd definitely cost less than $100 here. Have you looked at AliExpress? Pretty sure they'd ship worldwide and might be cheaper. https://www.aliexpress.com/
I have been seeing them pop up but have been afraid to order from them. Have you ordered anything from them. The prices seem to good to be true.

I placed an order with this seller, but sadly the pot I ordered had sold. The seller was very kind and offered a few other options, but none of them interested me. I will certainly try again in the future.

I recently ordered a small pot to try out this seller. As mentioned previously, pot was shipped in Styrofoam and well packaged. No issues with my first order.
