Anyone else waiting to collect something?!

expanding here - what I think I mean is the current flush on the tree wont be able to cope with the collection, so instead of trying to repair damage, if the flush is removed you`ll force a new one. the new flush will be small and divided in energy with root repair also going on. and yeah will be tender going into the cold, so protection.

Make sense or am I a lunatic? :P

And three smaller ones
I can only wait and hope they pull trough

They are in good hands now! I hope they survive and get you tons of fun.

I have a Bougainvillea that I really want to dig now but given the amount of thickness it has put on this year I'm tempted to leave it another year but then I wonder if I can still get the movement in it next year if it sets.
Also not sure the wife will be a fan of me digging it up but I have already made it clear that this one is mine. :D
Maybe if I wait until it drops the bracts I can get away with it.

Here's the crab @BobbyLane . About four inches before the flare.

hopefully it works out well and you get lots of back budding

My apple is budding out now, this was a few days ago, ive also set it up for some interesting dead wood in the future, this was done with branch splitters and ripping down strips of bark. the tree will be hollowed out in the future

the base is amazing on this

This is the one I'll be dreaming about this winter. Sugar maple on the property I manage. It's about 3" before the root flair and enters the soil at 5.5".
I have heard that the leaves don't reduce well, but they just glow in the fall.

One of the trees neighbors. To big to collect, but look at that corky bark. Amazing variation on trees in the same plot. :)

Pretty tough finding them this big and having healthy low branches.
One of my favorite roadside patches for digging these up got mowed this spring.
All down to 2 inches or less.
Being roadside and from being mowed before they had low branches. I'm going out today to see what grew up this year.
In a few years they should be ready again. Not a straight trunk there anymore.

A little over a month and still alive.
The real test came last night.
It got down into the 20s.

Love your collected trees, better get them into your Pit before any serious and extended freeze gets them...
Wasn't aware that Mio didn't get a Fall season...

Just waiting on the go head for collecting in an area of national park close to me.. Clocked a good bit of spruce and pine around the place.

The park ranger came through and granted permission. Rules are don't dig in the SSSI (marsh land around the lake) and don't dig any whitebeam. Will take some pics when next there.. time was short and the little one was kicking off. Should be popping there on Thursday, childless.

Here pretty soon it will be a great time to loom for larch.
They're easy to spot once the needles turn for fall.

I collected this from my front flower bed. I’m not sure what species it is. I’m hoping that it will survive. I think it has some good trunk movement.

These are a little better pictures of what I’m working with. I’m hoping for good deadwood and back budding along the very top branch! Please any feedback is much appreciated!
