anyone else enjoying the Mirai live stream?

I found his rock planting interesting, big, dynamic, and powerful.
I watched Ryan do this live a month or so ago and I learned a ton of useful info. I have been working on the idea to a nice Larch forest for about 2 years and watching this video was eye opening. hmmm maybe my future forest should go on rock, there is so much more interest adding rock but it has to be done right and finding the right rock seems just as hard as getting good trees.

Also, I went with tier 3 for two reasons, I want to be able to use the chat function and there are additional "bonus" videos on tier 3. In the live feed Ryan explains that he learned from Kimura just by watching. I have already learned so much from this.

I have not seen any of the recorded version of last night's stream, but I have to say that this was a fantastic setting for a demo/lesson, and a great way to get bonsai out to more people in the community and build the relationships between those already hooked. Getting to sit and drink good beers with a huge range of folks from the bonsai community as well as local folks who knew nothing about what was going on before stumbling in was a ton of fun, on top of everything you get to learn from watching a very knowledgeable and creative artist work. I think that as time goes on the technical glitches with this type of broadcast will be easily worked out, and this seems to me to be a great way for artists to share their knowledge and build a more informed and well-educated bonsai community. I think that watching the archived versions will be wonderful, with the ability to rewind things you missed, or skip over sections you find slow. I vote for having many more bonsai events in this kind of laid back social setting. It was a pleasure getting to sit and chat with everyone there last night and I had a blast meeting you all! Thanks again.

I thoroughly enjoyed the beech forest recording he did with his assistant. Very educational. Last nights acoustics, lighting and camera work were average at best. I would have thought this would have been tested beforehand and I hope mirai did not pay too much for that production. Best item was to see ryan lit up a bit on the beer. Relaxed and having a good time. I think I'll go with option two or three. However, I need to check to see if guest artists are part of the package. I don't know if they would be of the quality of ryan's technical and artistic level. Need a bit more info.

Would love to be able to afford this. Have gained a TON just from visiting Ryan, his place, asking questions, seeing his trees:D. Must wonder why would guest artist be needed:confused:? Raises question if hi level western artists ever study with each other?

Audio was incredibly difficult last night. We switched out one video camera and one 50' SDI cable (that had been run along ceiling joists).

The part of town where the event happened has some large radio repeater towers nearby. The radio noise floor is terrible. Our original setup was picking up a local pop radio station (I heard Taylor Swift on the line during tests) and also included some data transmission noise.

Haven't heard it....

But saving the day in these scenarios is kind of what I do....
Boy I wish I was in Portland!

Little upset that Ryan May not use .....

(The usual Tuesday night livestream has much better audio, btw. This was a circumstance of being in a difficult part of town with the wrong 50' cable and limited time to find a replacement.)

Well I started with tier 2 and upgraded to tier 3.

By far this is the best on line series I have participated in that covers bonsai.

Made all my $$$ back when Ryan talks about the break down of strength of native junipers vs Japanese juniper. The soil issues on common junipers. Pruning selection with native junipers.

Another level.

The guest artist feature titled "the Spanish master" tours David Benavente's garden and talks bonsai! Wow!

I signed up for Tier 2 and have really been enjoying the archived videos. I really like the close ups because it gives me an opportunity to appreciate some of the small details that typically get obscured in videos taking from a distance. Simple things like curvature to branches after wiring.

The concept of elongated growth and mound growth. How to control these factors.

Imagine what this will look like a year from now! The pine repotting one was very informative for me. Watching someone repot for 2 hours seems like it would be boring but I wish it was 4 ;).

Could you please elaborate on theseo_O?

Ryan explains the difference in how native junipers here in the USA develop differently than Japanese junipers.

He explained how the elongated growth and ramification do not develop in the same manner.

Ryan also explains how the energy flows are different.

It is a long video with a lot of detail. It would be difficult to explain these factors in a short post.
