Air layering a trident maple in the summer

Welcome to layering tridents. I've found that their vigor can bridge almost any layering attempts, or at least the ones I've done. A. palmatums layer like a dream, though.

I have had this happen too. I concluded I kept it too wet.

I should have just cut it off and stuck it in a pot to see what would happen, but this is 20/20 now because I already removed the growth.... whoops

I normally cut the callus at the widest point and re-wrap. Eventually it roots.
