Advice going forward with a new Picea Abies (Norway Spruce)

Add three drops of dishwashing soap to your soil drench, it will increase penetration into fine particle soil. That little soap should ot hurt the tree at all. I use it to wetten perlite for instance, because the pores in perlite are so small it's water repellent at first.

Just to make sure, by 'soil drench' I assume you mean the persticide mix? That sounds great, thank you for the advice. I appreciate it.

Yes, I mean the pesticide mix. I have some rapeseed oil based pesticides that perform even better when a small amount of soap is added. It helps the stuff emulsify.

The whole process took three hours. I cannot say I'm not worried though. The bugs, all the white stuff, the extreme amount of the clay-ish soil, and the amount of roots I had to remove all makes me a bit unsure of it's survival ability. Right now I'm keeping it in the shade away from wind. I am also going to apply some weak organic fertilizer (NPK 3-0,3-1) within the first week. Then I will leave the tree until next winter. If it's in good health then, I will perform the trunk chop I mentioned previously.
Curious for an update as I'm considering a similar project!
