My 10 flowering trees, which were scheduled to ship between mid-November and mid-December of this year, arrived yesterday. Not bare-rooted - barely rooted, mold and all.
Does anyone know what the roots are packed in? It seems to be some sort of gel. Just curious.
The only two that showed any signs of life were the 2 crabapple. So I potted them all up in about 70% DE and 30% bark. We'll see what happens. I did do some root pruning, as a lot of the fine roots were closer to the base on about half.

Were they shipped back in November, and just arrived today? Or were they shipped recently, and arrived today? Because those trees look like they've been out of the soil for quite a while.

I was disappointed with mine too this year, though they shipped on time.
They are never really look nice. It's not the first year I get them.
That gell was liquefied and roots did not look good. One of the hawthorns was stuck in tje bag top down, roots up. Redbuds never did anything, still have them in a pot. Hawthorns dead.
Crabs started to grow right away. Dogwoods finally started to grow leaves.
I gave an honest review and they sent me a nice email about their commitment to quality of their trees and asked me if I wanted a replacement.
Sounded like a passive-aggressive offer to decline. I did decline. Don't feel like dealing with it.
Can be any better if they send them now when it's getting hot.
Next year I probably will just donate and refuse the trees to begin with. Just for a good cause...

Ordered April 22. Shipped April 30. The order confirmation had the shipping date between November 15th and December 15th.

Yeah, about the same. I got trees that aren't great desert trees. We have redbud here, but I don't know how hard the others will be to survive, let alone thrive. Looks like it's time for a true test.
