A bonsai you designed on your own

Check here

Only one artist involved from start to finish. World masterclass from cuttings. If he's doing it, I'm doing it too. Turn on the english subtitles and scroll to 3.06
Did you also see where he took a yamadori juniper and worked on it for 20 years in video? Both are great options

Nope. Show me a self grown tree and I’ll show you a lot of mediocrity and irreversible Mistakes.
BS. The OP asked for bonsai from early young material, probably as an inspiration what could be done there.

So
You tell me is the 30’years ofwork that went into it not sufficient for the thread?
is the wrong question.
You started of with a great trunk and grew something from it. If you are happy with it great for you.
But it does not fit this thread.

Cornus sanquinea from cuttings, a few years in making, approximately 4-5. Great color of the trunks, and foliage, foliage is tiny compared to mature trees. Cuttings were stuck into a container, surprisingly survived, and as they were together, I transferred them into a cheap Chinese pot for better manipulation. I'm thinking about transplanting them onto a slate slab in spring. No big art, no big plant, but a fun project until retirement age. Easy to carry compared to most of my trees.
The front right is an incidental, self-seeded wild rose.

He didn’t really ask for young plants. He says cuttings over ten years old. A collected tree is basically a cutting starting pretty much as a “regular” cutting from a tree. No root system not branch structure, chosen because it has some good qualities etc.

Not playing word games just stating facts. To say all I (or any other collector) I started with was just a trunk” is mostly where people starting with a “regular” cutting start. It’s just bigger.

Funny, I walk past some red twig DW almost every day and think how beautiful the stems are in winter. Guess I will take my pruners and a bag on my next walk.

I wonder if ours (C. sericea) will show nice leaf size reduction. There are so many colorful stemmed cultivars available
