2025 US National Exhibit — Vending Area

Especially to bring anything home. Not like you could take a tree on a plane
Sure you can. I have packed four foot tall eight inch diameter recently. Collected cedar elm in a box that went through TSA xray machines. They didn’t care. Some folk have brought “ finished” trees on seats next to them. Of convenient for travel but it can be done without a lot of hassle

Lastly, a few items from the ABS seminars on Friday- not really vendor items but it feels like they belong here. I attended Mark Comstock's lectures on propagation & root development of young cutting-grown material. He was kind enough to let us take a few young plants. On the left are a few rooted hinoki cuttings, on the right two young Japanese black pine starts. Those have already had the roots cut once & are due for a second root-cutting.

I was really taken by how nice everyone was. Most of the vendors were happy to talk at length about what they had & help you find a good fit for your wants & budget.

I didn't expect to take any material home from Mark's seminar, that was a bonus.

Mark is extremely generous. I can’t say enough good things about the man.

I’m lucky that he is my neighbor the next town over and I’ve been able to get some great Japanese black pine starter material.

Here’s the one tree I got at the show:

IMG_3937.jpeg

Eastern White Cedar. Thuja occidentalis.

I was able to get this tree from David Knittle. He acquired it from someone in his local club years ago, and said that it was originally collected in Northern Vermont.

The current pot is a @NaoTK hexagon that David tells me was a custom built bespoke pot made just for this tree. Pretty cool!

I also stumbled upon a digital paper trial to learn that Todd Schlafer had helped with some of the early stylings.

Its a nice medium size, and I hope to continue development and crate a two tree display where I pair it with an American Larch.

That tree caught my eye the whole first day; awesome little Cedar! I look forward to observing how you improve it over the next few years!
