    Sean’s Japanese Maples

Ah yes, I didnt realise the wood underneath was attached. Have a few wooden slats laying around that will come in handy for reinforcement 😎

Is that a seed tray youre using there? In post #176 I'm looking for some shallow plastic trays, the seeds trays have the dimensions I want, but I dont find them strong enough usually. Cool projects, all these are developing well. You definitely have an eye for design.

    Is this trident worth it?

Ok cool! I think this one is also suited to a lean towards left.

    Is this trident worth it?

Buying online requires a little more scrutiny thats all. There is a bit of a gamble of course, just makes it a bit more fun. Looking at this with a fine tooth comb, as you do when buying online. Zooming in, those roots lined in Red would need to come off, but there is something that can be built...

OK, I'll buy a tree. Anyone have any Beech Trees?

In the second link, those Beech look ok, bear in mind healthy E Beech layer well, so those could be layered right underneath the first sets of branches.

    Is this trident worth it?

This Beech was £45 on ebay most recently. How it looked verses after repotting. Cant beat that for value! Takes time to hone your eye tho.

    Is this trident worth it?

Dont let anyone deter you from buying online. I have bought many decent trees online and especially kaizen bonsai among others. Probably as much as ive bought decent trees in person doing the groundwork.

    Is this trident worth it?

Nah, this one is worth it though. If you dont buy it within 2 hours I may just go ahead and buy it myself !! https://www.kaizenbonsai.com/products/trident-maple-bonsai-tree-bonsai-material-8 Pros: Good solid trunk with taper, and muscle. Some movement all the way through to the apex. Cons...

    Fagus Sylvatica Tree

This one is evolving and had a few considerable cut backs over this growing season. The taper in the trunks has improved dramatically. I decided on removing the sucker. I felt like it was drawing energy away from the main tree. I may grow up a third trunk now and turn the tree at an angle for...

    Norway Spruce/Picea Abies

Dead as a door nail. I guess it didnt like me leaving all the foliage on and removing a couple of roots.

American hornbeam. To twin, or not to twin.

This a twin Hornbeam by Pavel slovak, has some similarities, Id keep the twin in any case.

    Fagus Sylvatica/Beech

Update since the cutback. There were a few places where I cut back harder after the above photos. Notably the leader in main trunk. A step forward in progress. But still early days

    Interesting (very large) Acer Palmatum

If the area doesnt get many visitors, you could probably pop on an airlayer or two in hidden spots.

    Interesting yamadori elm

Ive heard Will baddely say he uses Ronseal wet rot wood hardener on this one over the years. With the heat we're getting globally, Elms will have no problem being pushed back a bit to induce back budding.

    H.Harrington VS AI

Its not been very wet here, our heat is a dry heat. And its been windy. One of my Beeches potted this year, the leaves have suffered a bit, but its still pushing flushes. While a couple others have been fine in direct sun.

    H.Harrington VS AI

Cant comment on the scientific side of things. Whats clear to me is mini heatwaves can be a blessing and a curse. Weakly rooted trees may struggle, while stronger, well established root systems will thrive. Already seeing multiple flushes on my Beeches and strong growth on Elm. I remember the...

    Ulmus Parviflora (Chinese Elm) #74

Or another option is to possibly title it and grow those branches up as trunks, you'd have somewhat of raft/bridge. You'd have to like rafts though and it depends how the roots are made up. Just a suggestion, to open the mind up. One way ive gotten bend into young deciduous trunks

    Vinny’s Little Leaf Linden

Nice potential. Going forwards I would look to raise the soil line, not only will the tree look better, it will help to generate more roots

    Ulmus Parviflora (Chinese Elm) #74

I would definitely cut back to the primary further back and begin that as the next section of trunk, otherwise the main trunk is too long and straight. I imagine you'll begin to see that as time goes on.

I would yeh among other areas.

Double post so ill post another tree. Beech that was cut back a few weeks ago has responded well, lots of shoots closer to trunk. This is why I love heatwaves, you get to push trees harder than normal and they respond!

Ah ok fair enough. I probably seen it before and forgot. I extended the privacy netting on my balcony, so I dont have to see the upstairs balcony. This Field Elm was collected in May with not much root. These shoots all grew while it was bagged, some of the leaves are beginning to harden off...
