Hinoki Cypress No. 1

I cleaned some of the foliage and pinched the ends 2 weeks ago… since then the new growth is light green and the tree is doing well.. I have it getting sun until 3 pm in afternoon then it gets shade .
Likes when I mist foliage too

It’s a tall tree and I think the style and progression of the pods I’ve been pinching are really starting to take shape .. I want to find more like this Hinoki cypress or pine or spruce( which is in the works ;))
and I love the style

I can't help but think that this is an inadvertent improvement. It really emphasizes contrast in the the height vs. the canopy
Thanks I think so too although it still needs to develop more especially branching but the top will get good growth.. and the bottom branches pinching works well to keep tight and not extend .
This is the inspiration

Better picture

The goal is to keep pinching the bottom branches and allow the top to grow out more .. the apex is wired up but as it fills out it will have a more define “dome ” shape and look more mature , a wired up apex still shows that it’s younger foliage , I also thinned some bottom branchlets today as well .

Here is another cool shot

Styling as an old growth? Nice.

Keep for now.

See how the other branches flush out in a couple years, then decide. Can use it for a hook anchor if need be in the interim.

Cheers

Yeah dude !! A distilled image of a tall Hinoki in a forest like you’d find in Japan

I like the Jin. Old hinokis in the forest have so many long spindly jins. Here’s a photo from my hike in March across wakayama. Nothing but 200 miles of trails through hinoki and cryptomeria forests. Was cool to observe the trees growing naturally
