What did you do today? Show us Pic Required

Not technically today, but .. first day really back on the forum.
I did some major carving, grafting and ensuring I did not get rootrot on one of the two main supporting lower trunks. Now no bending of the limb for 3 weeks, ensuring the graft takes, after which training will start again, to get back to full strength in 6-12 weeks.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

It is hot out!
I did a quick lunchbreak cutback of my garden center discount quince.
It has awful roots. I'm mostly using it for cuttings and maybe after a few years I'll sell it but just using it to learn a little more about quince and tough rootwork.

The two larger cuttings went into the aeroponic propagator. I should do some airlayers off of it next year.

Don't know how I ended up being so productive today.
Pulled three buckets of weeds. Donated a lot of blood to the local mosquito population.
Did some quick cutbacks on long term projects
I think this is a slippery elm.

This is a Buckthorn and I'm growing it just to mess with the few people in the club that say buckthorn can't be bonsai. Didn't get many shoots where I wanted but that's the way it always goes.

Unwired 30ish hornbeams over the last week. I wired them 2-3 weeks ago and were already starting to cut in. Then rewired the tertiary branching most of them have all pushed. My back loves me so much for this...😥 I didn't take many photos sadly.

Not bad for spring growth, they are really loving the NPK-Industries fertilizer.

Love the muscular trunks of American Hornbeam!

Picked up my half dozen bonsai trees from the gardens display. Heat dome, weekend, home in the tree house for a week or so.
"They" say Eastern White pines are not good bonsai canadates. Fortunately I collected this before I knew better. 15-20 yrs old.

Reworked this huge Shimpaku that had been neglected for the better part of the last decade.

The entire foliar mass existed all the way out at the tips.

Compressing the apex and bringing a tree like this back into proportion with no interior foliage to work with was much more difficult than I anticipated.

"They" used to say that California redwood were not good bonsai candidates as well.

Nice work! May the gods of backbudding grant you foliage in all the right places!

$12 ugly Eastern White pine as tax. Hoping to someday get it into more of a Chinese literati style. Now that I got some #6 copper I should wire the trunk.

Not sure of my exact strategy but i reduced the leaves on my ginkgo and styrax forest. Wanted better light penetration and to keep lower branches more happy.

I haven't done too much as of late. I got to a stopping point funds wise on building my retaining wall (sudden car and motorcycle repairs took that).

I'm slowly moving my in-progress trees onto temporary benches on my newly expanded front yard. Getting caught up on my pruning. Not so much getting caught up on photo-taking.

In the meantime, I got the bright idea to start using some of the wood I have been stockpiling for some practice material. I got my dad's old band saw mostly operational that he gave me 5 years ago.

Here is my test project. Just a small display table. This is a dry fit up to see if I like the proportions. Still a bit of design work to do.
