the queer folks thread

Not for nothing, there are a lot of cool threads on BNut from queer people involved in the hobby. They aren't in the Tea House.

So we all hoped but prejudice follows us everywhere.

Let's switch topics. I am grooming two trees for our club show this weekend. One is my first bonsai, a natal plum that I bought as a one gallon nursery plant in 1975.

Ohhh! please share photos! I’d love to see that natal plum!

I wish i had a club nearby, club shows sound fun. I only really started last year and everything i’ve learned so far has been from youtube and a few courses on bonsai empire. Oh and an intro class at Greenwood’s in Nottingham – but I lack the in-person aspect of the hobby 😞 i’m part of a discord group (general bonsai group, not lgbt+ specific) but it’s just not the same as talking to people face to face about little trees.

I promise to post pictures of the display at the show!

It's a shame that you don't have a club to go to, for all the reasons you give and one more. There are many things about bonsai that you only learn in person. For example I have never shown a tree in my entire life and a lot more goes into it than I thought LOL.

As promised, the first tree in the light colored pot is the natal plum. The other tree is a 'Green Island' Ficus. The show is informal and non-juried. But visitors can vote for their favorite tree. To my shock, the natal plum tied for third place. There were many much better and more spectacular trees in the show.

Yeah!
I'm volunteering at my club's bonsai pavilion today and will miss Pride in DC today, but next weekend our wonderful neighborhood will have a huge Pride block party, with a DJ, food trucks and hundreds of our neighbors celebrating all variety of LGBTQ people who live here.
For my husband and me (ages 76 and 73), that's excitement enough without the hassle of getting him in his wheelchair through the crowds in DC.
Husband was at Stonewall before the riot, and at the first DC Pride march, too.

Absolutely! I didn't know what pride was until I came out. That's when I found my strength, my confidence, and my PRIDE.
Can't miss pride week in the Netherlands, when several cities, ao Amsterdam, turn into massive parties for diversity with hundreds of thousands joining in..

I could imagine something to see for yourself

Sending love from Tel Aviv, Israel. Festivities start Thursday and go all weekend.

@gabemartini I love your cartoons! The graphic style reminds me of Donelan, a gay cartoonist who worked in the 70s and 80s.
Omg thank you so much. I’m not familiar with his work but it looks amazing, so i’m honoured hahaha I’m definitely checking his stuff out!! Already saved a few panels of his in my inspiration folder just now hahaha
