My first camellia bloom of the year opened yesterday morning! The neighbor has a few established and mature bushes that have been blooming for a while now. I've been excited for mine to open up.

I've been over to NM a few times - I don't recall seeing much in the way of flowers. I do recall seeing some gnarly looking trunks though on the native junipers there! Seems like it would be hard growing conditions for non-native species.

Exactly what I'm learning. For flowers, I'm working on a few mimosa/Persian Silk. I think I might be able to grow pomegranate; I'm waiting on a few seeds to germinate.

I hope so! I can't believe I left it out. It's a beautiful tree, and hummingbirds love them, too. It's actually in the Catalpa family.

Chilopsis linearis, the solitary species of its genus, the Desert Willow is not a willow at all, but a member of the  Catalpa family. Ironically, it's name comes from its leaves, which are small, long, and slender, 5 to 12 inches, in stark contrast to the Catalpa's huge, wide leaves. Anyone have Orchid blooming tips? I have one that didn't bloom & doesn't even look close. If I improve humidity and light requirements will it still bloom this year? This one is blooming but only one set of flowers this year after two sets last year.
