Okay so I'm pulling weeds in my olives yesterday and there were loads of tiny little spiders. I was thinking, I wonder what they could be they look just like tiny black widows. Mind you there are only two things on this planet that I fear. Spiders and scorpions, literally nothing else not even death itself. However, especially black widows send me into a full-blown panic attack. (long story but anyway...). I am moving my benches to where they will be for summer and down in the cinder blocks, I found MOMMA. OMG I nearly died, I'm sure of it.

Anyway fam how do I kill spiders but not my plants? Don't give me, they are beneficial. Spiders are from the pit of hell. LOL! Like almost all plant pesticides are for things that actually hurt your plants but I want to nuke these buggers... Help!!!!

Not sure. But there are companies that understand how to keep them away with traps/poison/sprays and stuff. Shouldn’t be to hard if you just want to target the windows. They usually like dark cool spots. I remember in Hawaii having geckos inside the house lol. They were like family lol.

Paperfish/bookfish and silverfish treatments usually come in a pressurized container with a long nozzle.
Tetramethrin and permethrin can kill spiders.

If you use the nozzle you can keep your hands about a foot away from them.

I generally agreed spiders are from the abyss and to it they shall return but I’ve come to accept them on my bonsai (free pest control) and that’s something I never thought would happen.

It's better (but harder) to solve a problem by looking inward than outward. Good job.

Sevin or any other neonicotinoid will kill pretty much anything.
If you can't find it in your area (banned in some places) you can get a small pouch of the cheapest tobacco, mix it into a strong tea, add a drop or two of dish soap as a surfactant, and liberally spay away with a spay bottle. I usually use this for my tropicals all winter with decent results, though it can discolor/stain blossoms, upholstery or whatnot. Not so much an issue in this case.
If sevin is the nuke, tobacco tea is the air/fuel bomb; ie. the poor man's nuke. Worst that'll happen if you kids or dog get into it after application is they get a bit woosey for an hour or two.

Or just wait. The babies will be on their way very shortly, then you can just squish momma.

They HATE conkers! At least UK spiders do, I don't know why but I know it works!

I can do this on everything but Black Widows. For a personal reason they have what you might call a “special” place in my heart… lol

I used to be a little squeamish when it came to spiders until I lived for a couple of years in an old farmhouse out in the countryside.
I had so many ordeals with massive 8 legged chaps that any small to normal size spiders on my bonsai no longer bother me at all.
My trauma comes from such a place lol.

I can assure you black widows are not in your garden. They are typically in dark, damp places, and prefer to never be disturbed - hence basements and around siding, piles of wood and cardboard etc. I have never encountered one in a garden setting.

The tiny spiders you encountered most likely just hatched. They are called slings and are entirely harmless.

They are obviously beneficial. If you claim to have no fear of death it should be in your capacity to overcome this fear as well.

As said elsewhere, get rid of the bugs and the spiders will go along. I have black widows all over. Found 2 last week, one came after me, she was in the reservoir of a self watering pot!

I had a pet black widow when I lived in Los Banos, CA. It took multiple attempts to capture her from behind the washer-dryer in the firefighter bunkhouse at San Luis National Wildlife Refuge.

We’d feed her whatever we could find. Mantids, centipedes, crickets... Such a lovely, timid, fascinating creature.
She laid an egg sac once. That was the only thing I couldn’t handle since the babies would be able to escape the enclosure. It got removed.
Before I left at the end of fire season, I released her into a dark well opening to live out her days.

Brown widows are similar to black widows but are far less reclusive. They have the banded legs and a more orangish hour glass. They’re less venomous.
