Save my bank account - This Chojubai…

I feel it's a bit high but not much, if you really like it go for it. Hard to find one with decent trunk size for less than $500. I probably wouldn't buy it for $950 but I would at around $700....but thats only because I have like 10 Chojubai now lol.

Haha yeah I don’t know if I’d get it as my 11th either 😝. But then again…I’m new to this whole bonsai game. Only trees I even have doubles of are apples, lilacs, azaleas, and jbps.

Ask if the pot is Tokoname, if is it it’s worth another $100 also.

Dunno if I would buy this tree at this price or even 500.00. It’s got some a Nic trunk with large structural issues that would need rework imho. Especially in the first image shown.

But that just my picky opinion after working on some of Michael Hagedorn’s many chojubai a couple times.

btw: Michael had a waiting list for the many he is developing. Might be an idea to write him and see if you can get on the list for a primo one.

Just a thought.

I don’t like it much. It appears poorly potted, and the side from the first image is quite ugly. Above that, it just doesn’t look like a chojubai to me. A thousand dollar tree of that size should be almost show ready in my opinion.

Is this for sale online? I think online prices tend to be quite a lot higher than what can be had locally.

Hmm….

Yep, I’ve on the list since 2022. Figured six years wasn’t too long to wait for the real deal.

This also gives me time to practice on other smaller quinces and figure these out before having to work with a much better tree. Don’t like tossing lots of money into a a really nice tree when I haven’t worked with the species before. Just me I guess.

Patience is a virtue in bonsai… but the wait will surely kill you 😎

I know they say red chojubai are finicky. Before taking the plunge on higher end material. I would buy a lesser quality material and see if I could keep it alive.

The tree doesn't tempt me. But...I also have no desire to own a finicky species.

Much prefer stacking the deck in my favor.

Not a big fan of this tree. Chojubai are usually developed as clumps because they... look really good as clumps. This tree has a almost-broom style that just doesn't work. It's not symmetrical enough for that style, the interior branches in the second photo are too straight and a that large branch in the first photo is a big problem. Just not worth it.
