Hello! Few days ago my Carmona bonsai started dying ( I think). I am trying to save it. I think it was because I did not water it properly. I was scared when I took a look at the bonsai and I saw these mold marks. They were like little hairs on the branches of the bonsai, where the leave is supose to be.

r/Bonsai - [URGENT ]Help with Bonsai mold :(((
What I did was:

- Transplant with a better substratum.

- use a sulfur fungicide.

- water it properly, when sand is dry.

- remove all the branches with remainings of mold.

About my climate:

- spain, my main city is dry over 38 ºC, I went to the mountain for a more tropical weather.

after one week, it looks like this, but those molds started to show again.

Is there something I can do about it? It was a present from my couple and I was expecting to grow it and keep it for as long as it can be.

Thank u in advance!

it is extremely dead. Probably overwatered from the look of the soil (which is way too dense and heavy in organic ingredients.)
It should also be kept outside in spring and summer. It’s a tropical species so If you get freezing weather in winter and fall it should be inside during those seasons

Don’t be put off by its death. Most first time bonsai are killed by new owners who are just learning. Get another learn how to water correctly and use decent bonsai soil. A hint is that most bonsai sold in supermarkets/mass market stores are in extremely bad soil.

Next time (and we hope there will be a next time) get a Ficus microcarpa. They are MUCH easier and can be designed in any way you like.

For next time have more patience before taking action.

-> If the substrate is not the cause of the dimise, repotting is destructive to recovery, as you will always damage the roots
-> your mould on the barnches is not mould. it is normal to have this fluff around the leaves; Removing it means removing any active buds that might have been there

Normally the best bet for recovery is to genly water it, NOT soak it in a tub, and put it in a bright spot and wait, leave it alone. No sprys, fertilizer, pruning, repotting etcetcetc. Just leave it alone.
In this case, the plan looks plenty gone. You might get lucky but.. I am doubtfull.
