8th U.S. National Bonsai Exhibition, Rochester, NY, USA, September 9-10, 2023

I’m not familiar with the Rochester food scene, anyone know of any killer bakeries with like Tartine level croissants? Any must eat restaurants/bakeries/etc?

Two words. Garbage plate...

However, when I was in college (2001-2005) it was mainly reserved for 2am post last-call meals.

Based on some quick googling, looks like the city had embraced it:

My brother in law is from Sodus, sounds like the garbage plate must be the thing for that region in general. 😂 My sister also suggested Dinosaur BBQ!

I know you guys have seen me mention this a zillion times, but just in case asking again: If anyone needs a tree or bonsai related item transported from Nationals, our climate controlled sprinter van transporter will be heading to Wisconsin and then the Pacific NorthWest/Oregon for the remaining leg after the show and the cost is being split so far amongst two parties. If we have a good amount of leftover pottery we will be headed back on that van also. You can pm me if you need a tree transported. :)

I think, we had the option to print out the invoice, which I did.
I don't remember any instructions beyond that and assumed I would be using that at the entrance, or a fancy French maitre d' would check their list to see if I was on the good list :)
60.00 dollars was ever taken out of my bank even after calling them last week. I sent an email and got no response , so I sent another asking if I need to repurchase. So I’m not sure what to do , I’m obviously going to go , but just confused if I’ll finally get confirmation of purchase at entrance or if I have to rebuy my tickets.

Just show up! And the $60 is out of your bank. I got banquet tickets this morning for Nao and his sister and the charge didnt go through until later in the day. I printed out the online confirmation in case….

Not sure if the website is up to date, but straight from Bill’s fb feed, the event schedule! Bjorn is on the schedule, say hi before he moves to Japan. 🥲

I seem to have misplaced my confirmation email. I’ve emailed requesting a new copy but was wondering if anyone knows if I can check in at the event with ID?

I never got a confirmation email. I think ID at the event is the general consensus.

So what’s everyone’s opinion of Rochester‘s weather this time of year? Of course, I can just look at the weather app, but that doesn’t always tell the full story.

Was always pretty comfortable this time of year when I was in college there. Probably a bit warmer nowadays, but still comfortable I'm sure.

Might need a hoodie at night.

Just don't go in the winter. Was glad there were tunnels between most buildings (good for skateboarding too if you didn't get caught).

I asked a friend of mine that lived in Rochester for a few years and he recommended 3 places, Leo's Bakery, Savoia, and Flour Bread City, the last one closes at 1pm, so it may be difficult with your schedule. I'm not a fan of Tartine's croissants LOL, I find them to bread-like vs fluffy French pastries. But... the one I had was brought over by a friend that had just arrived from South Korea, so that may also detract from the experience.
