The rumors are true. Bjorn is moving back to Japan

As someone with a young family I totally understand that being the priority. I wish him the best and look forward to seeing his content from Japan.

Edit: and not to attempt to rehash the Mirai Live/Bonsai U conversation but I think Japanese content will be a good addition to what’a currently available

The decision is absolutely understandable and I had wished him the best of luck last weekend at the MBS exhibition. Our discussion about his giant One Seed Juniper (and ultimately its acquisition) was definitely driven by the upcoming departure. I have no doubt that I’d visit the new nursery in the future, even if it’s just to visit a friend.

Adam Jones of Treehouse Bonsai has a super sweet compound near Omiya - I’m sure Bjorn will make an absolutely stunning base in Kyoto, and we look forward to maybe visit in the far future. Good for him for prioritizing family. But this is a huge loss to the American bonsai scene. :(

Wow. Good for him. Sorry that we will "lose" such an asset in American bonsai, but...

I hope that he has created enough of a following that he will only be MORE successful with his streaming business from Japan. I for one look forward to following his journey, and am going to enjoy watching his success.

Yesterday, I woke up and heard that Jimmy Buffet had passed. I was melancholy for the rest of the day as I had some of my best times ever at his concerts back in the 90's. Today, I wake up with a very mild tequila induced hangover only to read this... :(. It doesn't look like he's attending the NBE either... :(:(... he wouldn't have to buy a beer the whole weekend.

I think real estate in Japan is substantially more expensive. I am wondering how long it's going to take before he can have his own garden.

The content from Japan is going to be a change hopefully.

No real estate in Japan and cost of living is less than US

He’s not going to the National Bonsai Exhibition now?

Yea I find it a little amazing he said he is going from 10 acres (2 acre nursery area) to 1/8 of an acre. Doesn't leave much room for trees
I’m sure he’ll make it work , he prob has a property with rooftop space too it took Adam Jones I think a few years to get settled in his place

I just spoke to him this morning and he was still planning on bringing trees that he had sold and students’ trees to Nationals.
Yeah I figured he was still bringing up trees for the show , he is gonna be w Bob some point and I’ll be able to meet up w them maybe Friday night, if not Saturday morning at the show

I thought cost of living was higher…
Probably depends what you include and compare to. Hotels in Tokyo / Kyoto are a lot cheaper than e.g. San Francisco area of course out in the country side in a less popular area the US will be a lot cheaper. Healthcare US is the most expensive Globally.

Bonsai-U suddenly became much more attractive (currently a Mirai subscriber).

Didn’t he just hire a new apprentice? Is that person going to follow him to Japan too?
