If I were you guys in zone 4, I would be looking into Black Hills Spruce, Ponderosa Pine and Larch.

For sure! Definitely going to try my hands on those ASAP, but I like elm too much to not want to at least *try* to grow one here. Apparently American Elm is native to MN!
