Hey everyone! Have you ever grown Willow Hawthorn (Crataegus saligna) as a bonsai or in your garden? Or have any of you nature-loving dendrologists from the Colorado/Utah area ever snapped a picture of one of these unique trees? Finding images of a mature specimen online is proving to be as difficult as locating a black cat in a coal cellar.
I can find a few detail photographs of foliage, flowers, and bark, but nothing showing an overall tree.
I started growing a willow hawthorn from seed back in June of 2021. It’s not doing great because I have WAY too many tree seedlings and saplings to be able to care for any one of them properly. For some reason, I lose track of this sucker every season and almost end up killing it. I’ll find it in some forgotten corner of the property with one or two leaves hanging on, and then, in a state of panic, I will frantically try to revive the poor thing, almost killing it with too much attention.

I’m thinking of transitioning to bonsai soil next spring. In the meantime, I’d love to start thinking about how to style it. Can anyone send me a photo of an overall tree in nature?
I wish I hadn’t made such a ridiculous bend in the lower trunk, but it’s “spilt milk”. I’ll probably try to create an air layer of the apex to have another chance at styling and to provide a second tree in case I finally kill this one.
I’d also appreciate any cultivation advice from experienced growers.
