Where to start with first trees?

In addition to adding more mulch around the base of the trees, I have some heavy-mil, clear plastic and can use that too create a wind barrier with a simple frame. Will the combination of the wind barrier and the mulch be enough? Is there something else I should do?

Thank you!

One thing to watch is mildew or mold build up from low/no air flow if you enclose them with plastic.
I would make it so you could open it to allow air exchange after watering so the foliage dries and on warmish days and close at night or when it's too cold or windy.

As a self taught ChatGPT expert I would recommend getting some Ficuses, like microcarpa.
Really hard to kill, even for a GPT expert like myself.

What about when it rains? We received some rain overnight. Is there something that I should do to limit the amount of rain water the trees receive?

typically trees can handle rain. Are these in open coarse substrate or in more potting-soil like substance?

Temperatures have been down in the 20’s and we received an inch or so of snow. The trees are covered well in mulch and have a plastic barrier set up for a wind block. The trees are coated in snow, but the snow will melt soon as temperatures will back in the 50’s and 60s the rest of this week. I will keep an eye on the soil moisture when the snow melts today or tomorrow. Anything to keep ion mind as I check them after the first below freezing temperatures and a small amount of snow?

Thank you!

Hi can anyone help i have a korean hornbeam got it years ago lovely tree but it never thrives brilliant after a year or so i repotted it but it only had roots about 1/3 way round the trunk have tried to encourage roots all way round trunk it has a better root system now but still no roots on over half of trunk circumference can i cut it like you would for air layering to get roots at least most of the way round or would making cut in root invite damage and rot

It's worth a try I'd say. Wait until late winter to cut and apply hormone. Dress wound with sphagnum and or bonsai soil. Another option is approach grafting rooted cuttings from that mother tree. Or perhaps air layering the whole thing.
