Like the title says where's the cheapest 25lb bonsai mix with pumice?

Home depot or Bonsai jack, do the math, I think the HD stuff comes out a little cheaper. Not sure they're in 25 lb increments but something like that.

25 for my raised bed field grow out 30 gallon fabric pot.

For "bulk" soil (25 lbs isn't really bulk, 25 GALLONS might be ;)) To eliminate shipping costs, might be worth looking around the S. La. area for bonsai clubs/businesses. Underhill Bonsai, Bills Bayou, GNOBS, etc. I buy my soil in bulk in 50lb bags from a local bonsai nursery. They make their own.

I mainly need pumice of some sort I hate the way pearlite floats. I have all the organic matter.

You seem pretty fixated on this idea, despite many people telling you to reconsider. The rapid growth of field growing in a root pouch or just general nursery growing is the process of up-potting and (in the bonsai case) working the roots in successive years. Throwing something in a huge pot doesn't get you a huge tree; working UP to a huge pot does.

I understand from some other posts that you already have some of these pots. I'm all for using whay you've got, but in this case I think you'd be better off with 1/2/3 gallon nursery pots, which can be had for free.

Considering the selected bonsai soil, grow bag, time, and other cost to grow bonsai this way, it would be way cheaper, especially in Metairie area, to simply buy a collected BC of good size from people in New Orleans area. That is if BC is what @Metairiematthew wants.

I like thick trunks and only half go in the field the other half get up potted. I'll let you know which ones get bigger faster.

Looks like Home Depot is selling 20 quarts for $60.
Ordered the exact bag thanks.
I buy pumice from Build a Soil. 1 cf for $17, shipping for one bag was $20, so $37 for 30 quarts... I'm sure if you order more combined shipping will be less. So far it's the cheapest price "shipped" that I have found.

Damn great find.

You can also get pumice here: The Pumice Store
I got the 16ths size because I use a lot of the 1/8" and up to 1/4" and that size seems hard to find.. If you want bigger get the 8ths.
I have bought pumice for Bonsai from another source but most of it was too big, like 3/8" and very little of the 1/4" with no 1/8".
The pumice is reasonable but shipping runs more than the pumice. I think I paid around $50 for 20# including shipping.
You can also try Etsy... I was looking for 1/8" Lava and I found it there. Anyone know of a source of it in maybe 5gals?
This was my first year using Pumice in my soil mix.. So I will see how it goes.
I was using Turface, Coarse Sand and Pine Bark. You can find Turface at Athletic Field Supply stores for around $36 or so for 50#s
I switched to Pumice, Lava, Pine Bark and around 15% Turface.

Out here many folks drive out, dig it, and sift away.

Yet others, including myself, swear by General Pumice 29.99/ 3 gallons presifted pumice.

btw. One might consider recycling their media? It takes some time, but alleviates one from constantly ordering more and more bags of media unnecessarily/expensively? Many folks do this to good effect.

cheers

I know I save over double than I see anywhere else online by picking up at the local bonsai nursery. I’d look local you will save shipping stuff like that usually doubles the price.
