What the heck is this on my FukienTree

I bring my Carmona Retusa indoors every winter and only ever lose a few leaves. Suddenly this winter I’m seeing way too many leaves dropping off. Upon closer inspection I noticed these brown fleshy things on many of the leaves. Can anyone please tell me what these are and how to get rid of them.

This is scale, a common pest. They are no fun to deal with. Manually squish them by hand and drench the tree in neem oil for several weeks will help.
